About this Event
Difficulty: Moderate/Easy
Appropriate for: General audience; beginning and intermediate birders
Leader: Tinie Noordzij and Julia Osborne
About Julia and Tinie: Tinie and Julia are members of Winchester Trails, which provides nature walks for elementary school children in Winchester. Both have extensive training in natural history.
About the Walk: Join us as we explore the trails along Whitmore Brook and the hills above it, looking for early migrant birds such as warblers, vireos, and kinglets.
We’ll also observe how plants are responding to the warming temperatures.
We’ll pass through several distinct plant communities—red maple swamp, mature oak forest, a burned hillside, and an old field—which should attract a variety of resident and migrant birds.
Please bring binoculars if you have them. The path may be muddy in places, so wear sturdy shoes.
We’ll meet at the Winford Way entrance to the Fells, next to 59 Winford Way (at the junction of Winford Way, Town Way, and Clearwater Road) in Winchester. Parking is available on the nearby roads.
Steady rain or stormy wind cancels.
