Celebrating World Mother Earth Day 2026
This World Mother Earth Day, New Acropolis Pune will be presenting a two-day exhibition on philosophical, and scientific themes related to Biomimicry. This will be followed by a conversation with Prashant Dhawan, an educator, trainer, and thought leader in the field of Biomimicry and bio-inspired design. He is co - founder of the Biomimicry India Network. This discussion will be guided by Dr. Shraddha Shetty, who is a branch manager of New Acropolis Pune.
Nature serves as a perfect example of how scientific principles can be applied to create useful forms that are sustainable, good for all and beautiful. There are many lessons related to coexistence that we could learn from nature. Could we learn to create space conducive for growth of all life expressions?
A renowned biologist, Janine Benyus, who is also the cofounder of Biomimicry institute defines Biomimicry as a 'conscious emulation of life’s genius'. If we make a conscious shift from learning ‘about’ life and nature, to learning ‘from’ life and nature, we may realize that we ‘are’ life and therefore naturally responsible for its varied expressions . Intentionally emulating ‘natural’ scientific models which have stood the test of time, would be a practical step forward in this direction of union, by aligning our daily inventions with the intelligence of life.
Inspired by UV protective compounds in our eyes, we have developed sunblocks that filters UV rays and protects our skin. Inspired by a woodpecker’s unique shock absorbing anatomy, engineers have developed shock absorbers for black boxes in air planes, designed to protect critical flight data from high impact forces. Nature demonstrates many intelligent principles related to beauty, collaboration and effective communication, to name a few. Could we make conscious decisions to emulate these principles as well into our human societies? This would mean shifting from ‘human’ centric approach to ‘life’ centric approach. This could put us in harmony with the whole, with life.
This event is part of a global initiative of New Acropolis, which is an international organization present in more than 50 countries, to celebrate UN initiative of International Mother earth day. New Acropolis is a school of philosophy, which promotes culture and practices volunteering. Volunteers of the organization will arrange for a curated 'walk through' of the exhibit for groups that may be interested to know more.
