Join us for a Bioblitz at Indian Lake State Park on June 6th! What is a bioblitz? A bioblitz is a short-term biological survey where community members, volunteers and scientists come together to try to identify as many species in a specific area as possible within the set window of time. We will be using the app iNaturalist to record our findings. Experts on several different topics will lead hikes in our park to discuss the various topics and then use iNaturalist to try to identify as many species as possible! Anyone is welcome to join us for these hikes. Please come prepared with the iNaturalist app already downloaded on your phone and ready to use. Another great app that can be very useful is Seek.
Presentations will be followed by a hike. Presentations will be in the following order-
8am- Morning bird hike presented by naturalist Hailey Zeller
10am-Bees, wasps, and flies presented by OSU extension educator Jacob Winters
1pm-Invasive plant species presented by DNAP preserve manager Michelle Comer
7:30pm-Fireflies presented by OSU extension educator Jeni Ruisch
The presentations will take place at our amphitheater inside the Indian lake state park campground, and our hikes will be on our nature trail. Visitors should park in the visitors’ parking lot and walk to the amphitheater.
Please dress for the weather and be sure to bring snacks and water! Stop by for one presentation or stay for them all!
