About this Event
Walk Oakland Bike Oakland presents RiDE LiKE A GiRL, a bicycling skills program designed for every woman who wants to ride. Our goal is getting more folks comfortable and confident on their bicycles, and feeling more connected with a community of people who want to bike!
This year we are returning to Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont, CA. You choose from three different ride options, all routes will launch from Lake Merritt BART:
- The shortest and most family friendly route will be 6.5 miles along the Alameda Creek trail, taking BART to Union City BART station to connect with the trail.
- For those more comfortable biking but new to carrying camping gear will ride from Oakland via the Bay trail.
- For those who are ready to tackle hills with their camping gear will ride from Oakland via a hilly route.
Prior bike camping (or camping) experience is not required.
You should be comfortable riding as a group, and confident biking the distance you chose while carrying weight. You are responsible for your own food. We will lead a group ride together from the camp site to the grocery store 2 miles away in case you need to get anything else. Water and toilets are available at the campsite.
To best prepare yourself and your bike for the trip, you must attend a pre-trip workshop: We will go over trip details, tip sheets, and open the floor for gear swaps. Attendance at one meeting is mandatory.
- Tuesday, June 2, 5:00-6:00pm at Sports Basement (Berkeley, 2727 Milvia)
- Sunday, June 7, 1:00-2:00pm at Sports Basement (Berkeley, 2727 Milvia)
At the meeting, you will have a chance to meet others on the trip, learn helpful tips for bike camping, and discover ideas for packing your gear on your bike, and borrow gear if needed. You can bring your bike to the meeting to get support in setting up your gear.
Suggested donation is $15 per participant to cover campground fees and safety supplies. Feeling generous? Register as a steward of s’mores and give $30 to cover the costs of yourself and a fellow camper.
When you register, you will be required to provide an emergency contact. Please list someone who will be in the area the weekend of the ride and who will be able to assist you in any situation that may cause you to leave the trip. Volunteers will have basic first aid kits and bike tools, but will not be able to handle major ailments or mechanical issues.
**This ride is open to all women, trans and femme non-binary folks who want to join. Any children or youth under 18 are welcome to join with a adult guardian**
