Hello Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa Family;
Beginning in September this year, we started a trial to offer Bachata lessons designed for the more advanced Bachata dancers, and it has proven to be a great success. In 2024, we will continue to offer 3 hours of classes including 1 hour for beginner to intermediate Bachata, 1 hour of advanced Bachata, and 1 hour of beginner to intermediate Salsa. As usual, entrance fee a night of lessons and social dancing will continue to be $15. If you are interested in attending the advanced Bachata lessons, you will be required to pay an additional $5 for instructors. The schedule is as follows:
Miss Bachata – Main Ballroom• 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Beginner progressing to intermediate Bachata Lesson (No partner required for all lessons)• 8:00 pm – 12:00 am Social DancingMiss Salsa – Round Room• 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm Advanced Bachata Lesson ($20) NEW• 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm Beginner progressing to intermediate salsa lesson• 9:00 pm – 12:00 am Social Dancing• Free Parking• Full Bar (Free Water, Beer: $5.75)The last 10 years of organizing Latin dancing in Mississauga have been a labour of love. I made it my mission to help build a sense of community and demonstrate that the things that bring us together are much stronger than the things that separate us. United States Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy issued a grave warning in a New York Times that more than half of U.S. adults (58%) are lonely. Canada is no different. Covid aggravated an already emerging trend of increased isolation. Harvard University’s famous ongoing study on happiness started in 1938. They found that the experience of loneliness turns out to be toxic. Less happy, isolated people experience health declines earlier in midlife, brain functions decline sooner, and they live shorter lives than people who are not lonely. These are some of the most interesting highlights of the study: Close ties help delay mental and physical decline, and contribute more to happiness than money, fame, social class, IQ, and genetics. Relationship satisfaction is a better indicator of how people will grow old than their middle-age cholesterol level. People with a strong sense of community benefit from better memory function. Empathy and attachment are key to healthy aging. Loneliness can be as powerful a negative influence on health as smoking or alcoholism. As Waldinger puts it, “Loneliness kills.” Loneliness and isolation represent profound threats to our health and well-being. But we have the power to respond. By taking small steps every day to strengthen our relationships, and by supporting community efforts to rebuild social connection, we can rise to meet this moment together. We can build lives and communities that are healthier and happier. For those of you looking for a path forward, there are options available to you. Miss Bachata & Miss Salsa offers one such opportunity, a chance to make new friends, rebuild your social circle with an intelligent, welcoming crowd, a safe social environment, an opportunity to learn something new, and put joy back into your life. Just bring your warm and open and a ready smile and we will take care of the rest. Cheers!
