Become a community scientist and learn how to document animal and plant species and contribute to protecting biodiversity.
About this Event

The Big Year Eco-Challenge is a community science initiative to document plant and animal species in local communities across Canada. Join TRCA to learn more about The Meadoway's environment by using cell phones or internet connected devices to collect and document information that supports the plant and animal species that call it home.

• Learn about local environments and how to contribute to community science by conducting species monitoring activities using the iNaturalist app.

• Gain hands-on experience with scientific methods used by researchers in the field.

• Explore The Meadoway and make real-time observations through the iNaturalist app to document the species present.

You will have the opportunity to share your findings, ask questions, and engage in discussions about the species you've observed. TRCA educators will take these questions to local experts and researchers who will offer deeper insights and guidance on your observations.

We will also be conducting a litter pick and clean up of the surrounding area to help support our efforts. TRCA will provide latex gloves, bin bags and litter pickers.

How to join: Download the iNaturalist app and meet us in the Meadoway between Marcos Boulevard and Midland Avenue.

This is an outdoors event in nature. Please come prepared with warm clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a raincoat and your own gardening gloves.
