EVENT DESCRIPTION

A new generation of designers, architects and other creatives are committed to making positive change — addressing issues around sustainability, diversity, representation, inclusion and accessibility. We talk about the future of design activism and creative good behaviour.

A panel discussion chaired by Google’s Suhair Khan, with Sachini Imbuldeniya and Joseph Henry. Curated by Nick Compton (Wallpaper* magazine).

About Suhair Khan Suhair Khan is former head of Google Arts and now part of Strategic Projects at Google. Last year she founded Open/Ended, a ‘platform for activist design.’ She has led major collaborations with institutions such as National Gallery, Science Museum, Serpentine Galleries and V&A, and has written for Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler, and Architectural Digest. Khan describes her work as focusing on the nexus of art, culture, storytelling and technology. Her advisory roles centre around social impact, culture, design, and technology.

About Ashley Joiner Ashley Joiner is a curator, filmmaker and founder and director of Queercircle, a non-profit organisation working at the intersection of arts, culture and social action.

About Joseph Henry Joseph Henry is a designer and urbanist. He is Principal Project Officer in the Greater London Authority Regeneration team, and leads the Mayor’s Commissioning Quality research strand of the Good Growth by Design Programme. Henry is co-host of the platform Sound Advice, which explores spatial inequalities through social commentary and music. He is a trustee and company board member of the Russell Maliphant Dance Company, and an associate lecturer on the Spatial Practices course at Central Saint Martins, ambassador of The London School of Architecture and an advisor to Theatrum Mundi.

Design District Creates

The latest addition to London’s autumn cultural calendar, Design District Creates is a multidisciplinary celebration of the creative sector, taking place in its new dedicated creative hub on Greenwich Peninsula. From 15 September to 17 October, everyone is invited to explore Design District, with scheduled architecture tours led by Open City, pop-up events, food and drink, and art and design exhibitions including Art Block, in collaboration with NOW Gallery. Following the official opening event on 15 September, Design District will host an eye-opening programme of conversations about design, fashion, craft and innovation, featuring leading voices from across the creative industries in the brand new members club Bureau.
