🎥 Jeden z najsłynniejszych filmów kubańskich osadzony jest bezpośrednio po rewolucji i dojściu do władzy Fidela Castro. Główny bohater, pisarz po burżuazyjnym pochodzeniu, decyduje się pozostać w kraju, podczas gdy cała jego rodzina ucieka do Miami. Nad krajem ciąży również widmo inwazji ze strony USA.
🎞️ Fabuła oparta jest na powieści autorstwa Edmundo Desnoesa. Polskie tłumaczenie nie oddaje zawartego w oryginalnym tytule terminu "underdevelopment" (hiszp. "Memorias del subdesarrollo"; ang. "Memories of Underdevelopment" ). Seans filmowy potraktujemy jako pretekst do pochylenia się nad znaczeniem tego pojęcia.
💭 Wprowadzenie i dyskusję poprowadzi Stanisław Bogdanowicz, doktorant w Szkole Doktorskiej Nauk Humanistycznych UW, absolwent Łódzkiej Szkoły Filmowej oraz Wydziału Filozofii UW. Zachęcamy do komentowania filmu i zadawania pytań.

🎬 The Library Film Club invites you to another meeting during which we will watch the film "Memories of Underdevelopment" (dir. Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, Cuba 1968).
🎥 One of the most iconic Cuban films, set immediately after the revolution and Fidel Castro's rise to power. The main character, a writer of bourgeois descent, decides to stay in the country, while his entire family flees to Miami. The specter of a US invasion looms over the country.
🎞️ The plot is based on a novel by Edmundo Desnoes. We will use the film screening as an excuse to explore the meaning of this concept of "underdevelopment".
💭 The introduction and discussion will be led by Stanisław Bogdanowicz, a doctoral candidate at the Doctoral School of Humanities at the University of Warsaw and a graduate of the Łódź Film School and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw. We encourage you to comment on the film and ask questions.
