Learn the basics of home canning to preserve your summer bounty
About this Event

Learn the fundamentals of home canning with expert home canner Timothy Young. Whether new to the idea or looking to advance your knowledge, this class will take you to the next level. This class covers both hot bath and pressure canning, the basic science involved, tools needed, and offers recipes and demonstrations. Attendees will learn the basics from canning simple fruits and vegetables to more complicated processes for canning soups, meats, and sauces. Take home a freshly preserved jar of something delicious!

Notes:

Location: Classes are held in our Community Room and Kitchen at Oryana West. The Community Room is in the back of the store near the restrooms and Wellness Department.

About the instructor:

Timothy Fitzgerald Young is founder and former President of Food For Thought, Inc., creators of organic and wild-harvested gourmet specialty foods. An extensive background in travel and human relief work in the developing world inspired Timothy’s creation of Food For Thought in 1995 with the mission of creating and raising awareness around just and sustainable food systems and to serve as a model to counter the global industrial food system. A past President of the Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council and former Vice Chair of the Groundworks Center for Resilient Communities, he is currently a board member of the Northwestern Michigan College Foundation. Passionate about Fair Trade, Timothy was a founding board member of the Domestic Fair Trade Association. He continues to enjoy homesteading on his 10 acres near Empire with his two kids, Connor 19 and Stella 24.
