About this Event
NYCGMC presents Beyond the Rainbow, a sweeping choral concert that reflects on our journeys and boldly imagines the futures we are building as LGBTQ people. Through iconic anthems and newly commissioned works, the program moves from reflection to possibility—lifting audiences toward something brighter.
Across three performances at NYU Skirball Center (April 24 at 8 PM; April 25 at 3 PM (ASL Interpreted) & 8 PM), the chorus pairs beloved pop with powerful contemporary choral writing. Music by Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, and Pat Benatar anchors the evening in anthems of strength and self-determination, while a newly commissioned work by queer composer Scott Hoying and a world premiere by Ash with text by Leo Herrera expand the choral landscape forward.
Blending cultural touchstones with bold new voices, Beyond the Rainbow is both celebration and declaration—an expansive, emotionally resonant experience affirming resilience, community, and the possibility of a future imagined together.
