In the decades when the classical concert canon was taking shape in the United States at the turn of the twentieth century, women were among its most decisive builders. They cultivated ambitious piano culture in private collections, organized and funded concert life through music clubs, and stepped from the salon onto the public recital stage. This program draws on the musical repertoire and visual art of Gilded Age America, moving through a world of travel, study, and exchange across the US, Latin America, and Europe.Cosponsored by the Johnson Museum of Art and the Cornell Center for Historical Keyboards.
