The Broadway Chorus is pleased to present their 45th musical. It's Beyond the Meadow—but this one's special! It's a home-grown musical, with lyrics and music composed by the Broadway Chorus' own Ashley Lambert-Maberly, and its first production was 25 years ago. We're bringing it back for its silver anniversary.
We tell the story of Sleeping Beauty, with more input from the wicked fairy than usual—remember, this was pre-Wicked, pre-Maleficent. According to critics at the time, it was "an extravaganza with big dreams" and "a treat to discover" (the Vancouver Sun), "a modern beauty" (the Vancouver Courier), that would "surprise and amuse" (The North Shore News). You can expect the same "silly and snappy" fun that the Broadway Chorus normally presents, along with some "glorious choral harmony" that sends "shivers down the spine." (The Vancouver Sun).
For this revival we've doubled the cast size, polished the vocal harmonies, and the wicked fairy (Ashley reprising his original role) promises to be meaner than ever. There's new choreography, upgraded costumes, some new songs, enhanced piano accompaniment, and so much more. We hope you have a great time at this once-in-your-life experience ... or maybe twice-in-your-life, if you saw the original production, welcome back.
The show runs May 15-18 at Performance Works Theatre at Granville Island. We also offer a livestream option (with 72-hour replay) for the May 17 and 18 performances - perfect if you're out of town or your schedule doesn't allow you to attend in person!
