About this Event
Whether on stage at the Paris Opera Ballet or Le Moulin Rouge, the dancers and performers of 19th-century Paris garnered great interest from both the rising middle-class and the “Modern” artists of the day. In addition to their personal appeal, these entertainers were often the agents of change through which the evolving Parisian society was judged and critiqued. Join us to explore this new world through the artworks of Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Alphonse Mucha, Mary Cassatt, and others. In addition to the lecture, the evening will include a live performance of Antony Tudor's Judgment of Paris and Debut at the Opera by Agnes DeMille, a work based on one of the young dancers (un petit rat de l'opéra) at the Paris Opera Ballet.
This event occurs in person. RSVP does not guarantee entry. Our coat check is limited. Please do not bring any large bags or backpacks.
