Come join us for a captivating evening at Illinois Tech/Galvin Tower for a special free screening of the thought-provoking film Beyond Closure. What happened since Chicago closed 50 public schools in 2013? This documentary retraces the history of the largest mass school closures in U.S. history highlighting the intertwined issues of inequity, racism, and injustice. Three closed schools showcase a new pathway—one of a community’s self-determination. Through the voices of community members leading the repurposing ofRobert Emmet Elementary School (Austin), Granville T. Woods Academy (Englewood), and Anthony Overton Elementary School (Bronzeville), this film reflects on community impact, their setbacks, and wins toward redevelopment.
