About this Event
Join theatre artist Derek Chan (陳嘉昊), playwright Natasha Chew, interdisciplinary artist Nancy Lee (李南屏), and writer Yilin Wang (王艺霖)as they explore connections between cultural heritage and artistic output. Editor Charlie Smith will moderate the discussion as part of Pancouver and the Asian-Canadian Special Events Association’s Beyond Chinese project.
Derek Chan (陳嘉昊) is managing artistic director of Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre and a playwright, director, performer, translator, and producer. He has been co-artistic director of rice & beans theatre since 2010. He is from Hong Kong.
Natasha Chew was producer and marketing manager of I Fear Love. A former president of the UBC Players Club, she wrote the play A Captivating Woman. She is mixed-race with Chinese and Filipino ancestry and was born in Singapore.
Nancy Lee (李南屏) is a media artist, curator, filmmaker, DJ, and cultural producer, as well as co-producer and co-founder of CURRENT: Feminist Electronic Art Symposium, which is an intersectional and multi-disciplinary initiative. Nancy Lee (李南屏) was born in Taichung, Taiwan.
Yilin Wang (王艺霖) is a Chinese diaspora writer, poet, Chinese-English translator, and editor and translator of The Lantern and the Night Moths. She has written for many publications, including Clarkesworld, Fantasy Magazine, The Malahat Review, Grain, CV2, The Ex-Puritan, Toronto Star, and Words Without Borders. She was born in the Chinese province of Sichuan.
