About this Event
The Wallace Collection St Cecilia's Hall 2024 Illustrated Concert Series
The Wallace Collection is engaged in a large-scale project focused on rediscovering the lost treasures of brass music in the Romantic Period. This series of two concerts display the brilliance of this music when played by virtuosos on the original instruments for which this music was written.
This Concert - Beyond Beethoven
The Wallace Collection present an illustrated concert where they will perform music by Beethoven, Auguste Mimart and James Reese Europe, talk about their instruments, and the world of innovation in which these works first saw the light of day.
Programme
In this concert, illustrated by contextual materials and spoken commentary, three works will be performed:
- Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) Die Alte Gute Zeit
- Auguste Mimart (1828 – 68) Septuors 1 - 6
- James Reese Europe (1881 - 1919) St Louis Blues
