About this Event
What does it mean to make art about yourself? Is the label of “autobio” a false promise to author and reader? In a time of rapid disenfranchisement of both art and the human spirit, artist and educator Polly Guo talks the power of comics and narrative as a accessible way to increase self-identity, to express one’s self authentically, and to connect with community.
Polly Guo is a trans story artist and activist whose credits include Adventure Time, She-Ra, and others. Her critically acclaimed comic ‘Gawain’s Girlfriend and the Green Knight’ appears on The Beat’s ‘Top 100 Comics of the Decade.’ She is trained in developing Social Emotional Arts (SEA) curricula by the UCLA Arts and Healing Initiative and is currently a professor at Calstate Fullerton (CSUF).
