About this Event
Beloved Oxford band Stornoway return to the stage with their most ambitious and life-affirming music yet. After nearly a decade away, the group who redefined British folk-pop with their nature-inspired harmonies and widescreen soundscapes are back — and sounding more joyful, inventive and heartfelt than ever.
Formed in 2005 by Brian Briggs, Jon Ouin, and brothers Oli and Rob Steadman, Stornoway captured the nation’s imagination with their debut album Beachcomber’s Windowsill — a silver-selling classic full of lyrical wonder and melodic warmth. Follow-up records Tales From Terra Firma and Bonxie cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s most distinctive bands: blending intricate arrangements, poetic storytelling and an environmental consciousness that felt both timeless and modern.
After disbanding in 2017, the band members pursued other paths — Briggs even traded guitars for a chainsaw, working as a wildlife conservationist in Wales. But in the quiet of lockdown, creativity sparked once again. The result was Dig The Mountain! — a radiant, multi-layered return created between the Welsh coast, Oxford and London, produced by Mike Lindsay (Tunng). Featuring collaborations with Sam Lee, Fyfe Dangerfield, and Chinese virtuoso Yijia Tu, the album was hailed by critics as “a joy” (The Sunday Times ★★★★) and “their most eclectic to date” (Clash). It entered the UK charts in multiple Top 10 positions and led to a sold-out UK tour.
Stornoway’s live shows are an immersive experience — rich harmonies, kaleidoscopic arrangements, and a genuine sense of connection between band, audience, and the natural world. Expect songs that shimmer with optimism, melancholy and beauty — from early favourites Zorbing and Fuel Up to the cinematic new soundscapes of Trouble With The Green and Excelsior.
With Dig The Mountain! the band have rediscovered the wild spirit that made them so loved — blending folk, pop, and environmental poetry into something utterly unique. This is music that uplifts and reminds us of our place in the natural world.
Join Stornoway for an evening of harmony, hope and rediscovery — a celebration of creativity, friendship and the landscapes that inspired it all.
