"Between Two Worlds" – This show emphasizes the painter’s upbringing in NYC and the photographer’s feelings of longing for home and distance. Eddie Lopez; Growing up poor in New York City, along with his ethnic and religious background, has profoundly shaped every phase, style, and theme of his paintings. Without the means to attend formal art classes in theory or composition, he taught himself. Drawing from personal experiences and later from exposure to formal and stylized art in museums, galleries, and books, he developed a unique approach and a distinctive vision of what art should be.
Mattias Lundblad: Mattias works in a personal documentary tradition of black and white photography, and over time going between New London and Sweden, a body of work has grown out of the moments between friends and family who make up our existence. The photographs have been made in an intuitional way, and he keeps finding that certain themes and compositions reappear in both places. And every now and then, the two separate worlds merge into one.
