Location: Bushmead Community Hub

Topic: Exercises

Come and join us at Better Bones Luton for support in your community. Whether you or a loved one have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or have concerns about bone health, this group is for you. To find out more, please take 3 minutes to complete our risk checker: Osteoporosis risk checker (theros.org.uk)

This month we are focusing on exercise, welcoming Lianne Crisp of LCF Fitness, who will demonstrate a number of ROS exercises. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. All participants will be asked to sign the below Health and Safety agreement before taking part:

Health and Safety statement for demonstrations of ROS Exercises at support group meetings.

Your safety:

ROS exercises have been specially developed for people with osteoporosis, and should be safe for most people. However, some people should check with their doctor before trying new types of physical activity.

You should seek medical advice before trying new exercises if any of the following apply to you:

  • if you are over 70 and don’t already do some physical activity
  • if your doctor has ever said that you have a heart condition and should only do physical activity when recommended by a doctor
  • if you feel pain in your chest when you do physical activity, or in the past month you have had a chest pain when you were not doing physical activity
  • if you lose balance because of dizziness or you ever lose consciousness
  • if you are on Medic*tion for high blood pressure or a heart condition
  • if you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity

You are also advised to seek medical advice before trying new exercises if you are more severely affected by osteoporosis, for example:

  • if you have (or suspect you have) vertebral fractures
  • if you find movement of your upper body difficult or painful
  • if you know you are at a high risk of fracture.

It is your responsibility to decide whether you wish to participate in any demonstration or exercise in this session, assisted by any medical advice you wish to obtain. The instructor will aim to make this taster as safe and beneficial as possible, but all exercise carries a small risk.

Anyone who participates in this taster does so at their own risk and ROS disclaims any liability for any adverse effects connected with this session.

IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT ABOUT WHETHER A HEALTH CONDITION OR Medic*tion MAKES IT UNSAFE TO TAKE PART, YOU SHOULD CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FIRST.

Please note: The ROS does not endorse any individual exercise instructors. Any instruction provided is entirely their own view, and not endorsed by ROS. You should always follow the advice of own doctor/healthcare professional.

Your agreement and understanding:

  • I understand and agree that I participate in the session entirely at my own risk.
  • I agree to participate within my own capabilities.
  • I understand that I should not do anything unless I feel well enough and comfortable to do so.
  • I understand there is no requirement to participate in any exercises.
  • I agree to stop participating immediately if I have any concern about an exercise.
  • I agree I will not do anything I feel is not suitable for me.
  • I agree I will participate in line with advice provided by my doctor/healthcare professional.
  • I agree to tell the instructor about any health conditions, disabilities, injuries or medications which might affect my ability to join in, ahead of starting any exercise during the session.
  • I understand the instructor can not advise on whether any condition could be adversely affected by participating.
  • I understand it is my responsibility to decide whether I wish to join in or continue with a session, assisted by any medical advice I wish to obtain.
