These sessions will explore best practice in the planning, teaching and assessment of writing across the school.
This session will focus on Y4 , providing dedicated time to unpick what works and reflect on current practice.
The morning of each session will be structured around planning and teaching writing , with a focus on:
- Engaging all cohorts in writing, particularly boys.
- The effective teaching of grammar and punctuation throughout a unit of work.
- Developing understanding of the form and function of writing.
- Using assessment throughout to support learning.
The afternoon session will be focused on the accurate assessment of writing, focusing on identifying gaps and misconceptions in writing and how to support children once this has been identified. Alongside moderators and colleagues, there will be the opportunity to unpick what WTS, EXP and GDS writing looks like for the year group, whilst building upon knowledge and skills in the assessment of writing. Delegates will need to bring current long term planning and writing evidence for at least 6 children across the attainment range for their class.
