About this Event
This workshop is relevant to all those who supervise international students registered for a PhD, an MPhil or a Professional Doctorate. It is also relevant to those who may be part of a supervisory team of an international student in the foreseeable future. The aim of the workshop is to identify the issues and challenges of recruiting and supervising international students and to explore good practice in addressing these. It will consider the expectations, challenges and opportunities of supervision from the perspective of both the supervisor and the research student.
The session will be useful to those supervisors looking to recruit international research students for the first time, focusing on techniques and the support available to market projects to potential students overseas, how to deal with international applications in addition to supervising international PGR students.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to learn from the experience of colleagues in different parts of the university. Consideration will be given to the common experiences that international students face including feedback from past/present students. Issues around attracting good international candidates will be explored and there will also be an opportunity to discuss specific challenges supervisors face when supervising international students.
