A programme designed for all staff working in any care environment with the principle of person-led care at the heart of it
About this Event

Join DSDC’s new and updated award-winning Best Practice in Dementia Care Learning Programme, and be part of the worldwide community dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by a diagnosis of dementia.

The Best Practice Programme is designed for staff to work together to support learning and enhance the culture of dementia and ageing care within organisations. Staff are mentored by a Facilitator who guides them through the programme to support them in their journey, through a mixture of individual and group work. By the end of the course, Staff Participants will have an increased knowledge and understanding of dementia care and will feel more confident in their role.

This course has been designed specifically for frontline workers and to be accessible within the constraints of work demands, making it the ideal course to make a real difference in the day-to-day care provided within your organisation.

Course structure

One experienced staff member attends the DSDC Best Practice in Dementia Care Facilitator Training, which is Accredited by RCN, with 20 hours of CPD. This is the staff member who you want to Facilitate the programme in your organisation.

Training is delivered over two days (in person), followed by one week to complete the course submission, with feedback then provided at the end of the following week.

Once the Facilitator has successfully completed the course, they will receive a certificate and digital badge. Facilitators will also be provided with eight Participant Workbooks, and a Facilitator Guide, for them to take colleagues through the course. Facilitators are encouraged to set up a series of meetings over an 8 - 12 week period for the group to work their way through the course.

Once the Participants have completed the course, they complete a short reflective exercise, which is sent into DSDC for marking. Upon successful completion, Participants are then provided with a certificate and digital badge.

Facilitators can continue taking further Participants through the course; additional Participant Workbooks can be purchased from DSDC. Facilitators will be required to undertake a short refresher course every two years. The refresher course will update Facilitators on changes to the programme and highlight any new content within the training materials that they need to be aware of.
