Stories of cold water, remote places, and the people drawn to them. A celebration of surf, exploration, and connection to wild environments.
About this Event

This screening brings together two powerful films that explore cold water, wild landscapes, and the human pull towards remote places. a celebration of surf, exploration, and deep connection to the natural world.

Gwynnik

Directed by Seth Hughes

A raw and personal cold-water surf film, Gwynnik follows Finisterre Ambassador Mike Lay as he turns back towards the seas closer to home. After years spent chasing waves around the world, Mike is drawn to the quiet intensity of winter surfing, where solitude, obsession and rhythm shape his relationship with the ocean.

Gwynnik, meaning “little fair one” in Cornish, is the third film in our ongoing collaboration with Mike and director Seth Hughes. It is a reflective story of family, familiarity and returning to the sea with new eyes.

Domain 1 – Antarctica

Directed by Joaquín Azulay & Julián Azulay

Vast, wild and extraordinarily fragile, Antarctica is the coldest place on our planet and one of the regions most affected by global warming. Domain 1 – Antarctica follows a small crew on a journey to the edge of the surfable world, exploring and surfing the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.

The film focuses on Domain 1, an area being proposed for Marine Protected Area status, highlighting the role protected regions play in mitigating climate change and regulating human activity. Antarctica is the only continent that belongs to humanity, and this film is a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect it.
