The Best Adapted Book Club focuses on books on their way to becoming award-season films. May's pick is Remarkably Bright Creatures, a big-hearted novel that became an instant favorite for its wit, tenderness, and unforgettable narrator: an observant octopus.
Set in a small coastal town, the story follows Tova Sullivan, a widow who works the night shift at an aquarium, and Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus who is far more perceptive than anyoen realizes. As their lives quietly intersect, long-buried secrets begin to surface, revealing a moving story about grief, connection, and the strange ways we find one another.
The film stars Sally Field and is scheduled to be released on Netflix on May 8.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Shelby Van Pelt lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her family. Remarkably Bright Creatures is her first novel.
