Tonight, indoors in the Albuquerque Museum’s intimate Ventana Room, we feature the Bert Dalton Quartet playing the music of the iconic jazz legend, Dave Brubeck. Led by pianist Bert Dalton, this all-star quartet, comprising Rob “Milo” Jaramillo on bass, John Bartlit on drums, and Dave Anderson on alto sax, will feature, among other Brubeck favorites, selections from Brubeck’s Time Out, the first jazz recording to sell one million copies. The album reached double platinum and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009. This concert includes a wide range of Brubeck compositions and brief commentary on the music, the use of unusual time signatures, and stories about the quartet. Bert Dalton has performed with everyone from Herbie Mann, Regina Carter, Bud Shank, Frank Morgan, and Anita O’Day, to the Smothers Brothers, Shirley MacLaine and more. He has recorded with John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton and was the Music Director of NDI New Mexico for 25 years. The recipient of the NM Music Commission Platinum Award and Santa Fe Mayor’s Award, he has also earned a dozen NM Music Awards. A stalwart of the NM music scene, Rob “Milo” Jaramillo has performed with John Lewis, Bill Watrous, Tony Quinones, Tito Puente Jr, Chris Calloway and many others. John Bartlit taught at UNM for 12 years and has performed with the New Mexico Symphony, New Mexico Marimba Band, John Lewis of MJQ, Chris Calloway, John Cage, the International Flamenco Festival, and “Skumbaag,” his own invention of "21st Century Vaudeville." A long-time Santa Fe resident, Dave Anderson is a retired Sant Fe Public Schools music educator and multi-woodwind player who has performed with Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Linda Ronstadt, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Pro Musica, the National Flute Association, SuperSax New Mexico and more.
