All together now! ‘The holly and the ivy …” It’s that time of year again. There are a good selection of berries to be found on Portsdown Hill, including spindle, rose hips and sloes. Actually a sloe is a drupe not a berry, come and see the difference. A drupe is a fleshy fruit with one seed whilst a berry has many. And we’ll find pomes as well, like apples, which have a tough central core containing the seeds. The wandering walk of discovery will be led by Richard Jones, Portsmouth Countryside Officer. There is parking off Widley Walk by The Churchillian and more at the nearby viewpoint. Come prepared whatever the weather with windproof, warm, waterproof jackets and walking boots. The walk is not suitable for pushchairs. No charge.
