Berlin Midday Meows - LIVE Podcast & Asian Music Deep Dive

Welcome to Sponge Cake's second solo show! This time, we’re leaving standup comedy behind for a live podcast and music deep dive crossover.

In the first half, I'll take you through my secret playlist, featuring J-pop & city pop, K-pop, C-pop, East Asian hip hop, and a lot of indie & avant-garde stuff. Between tracks, I’ll spill juicy stories, gossip, and rumors about the musicians, trends, and the Asian music industry of that generation. Get ready to groove to some beats and learn about the cultural insights behind the tunes. At the end of the show, you'll receive a link to the playlist.

In the second half, we’ll record an episode of "" together! You don't need to listen to the podcast to join, but it's better for you to know a bit of context. I’ll kick off with my personal Berlin stories, share some of my unpopular opinions about the city, and invite you to share yours. If you’re too shy, just laugh along and let the people talk!

Si Si is a standup comedian from Hong Kong. Growing up in the city's infamous destrict known for its high rates of suicide, mental illness, and domestic violence, humor became her survival instinct. It now serves as a way to give people a quick privilege-check shot and bust some Europe/US-centric myths. Her performances are rich with insights into East Asian culture, seasoned with the savageness of Asian parents. In her podcast "Berlin Midnight Meows," she adopts the persona of Sponge Cake and, with her talkative cat, shares controversial observations and the kind of bizarre stories you'll have to hear to believe.
