About this Event

This continuing education event reviews theories of bereavement and grief processing with children at different developmental stages. Participants will learn Play Therapy skills and interventions for working with children experiencing grief and loss. Participants will practice skills in an interactive learning format and learn from case examples.

Training will be live and in-person only.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:

1. Recite essential theoretical concepts related to children's grief

2. Differentiate developmental responses to grief

3. Differentiate between the types of grief experiences and characteristics of grief

4. Demonstrate knowledge of theoretical concepts of Play Therapy for grief

5. Assess when Play Therapy may be an effective intervention to treat children's grief


Tentative Agenda:

9:00 am – 10:30 am – Theoretical Concepts of Children's Grief

10:30 am – 12:00 pm – Developmental impact of loss and grief

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm - Lunch

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Play Therapy skills and interventions for grief

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Practice Play Therapy skills to target grief

Participation

A Time for Play Therapy Continuing Education events are professional trainings developed for master's level mental health clinicians and students. Prior Play Therapy knowledge and experience are helpful but not necessary to participate. Play Therapy credit available to mental health professionals and graduate students in a mental health program.


Handouts

Each registration for an A Time for Play Continuing Education includes limited time access to a Google Drive folders with handouts specific to the training. It also includes a folder of suggested readings of articles, book excerpts, and research that are specifically relevant to the Play Therapy training topic. Please make sure you are able to access and download the materials.


Virtual Attendance

Per APT guidelines, virtually attendees must keep your cameras on and be present and focused throughout the entire presentation. This guideline is especially important because there are several interactive activities and breakout discussions that require group participation.


Post-Test and Evaluation

Participants will be given a post-test and an anonymous evaluation to complete at the end of each training. Participants must attest to completing the evaluation and must meet a minimum score of 80% to receive Continuing Education credit.

Cancellation and refund policy

Registration refunds will NOT be made to parties who register but do not attend or do not request a refund from the organizer 24 hours in advance.

Cancellation Policy

A Time for Play reserves the right to cancel any of these training in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such a cancellation occurs, A Time for Play will attempt to notify registrants and refund all registration fees.


Continuing Education Credits

This Continuing Education event is acceptable for the purposes of license renewal for Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists in the state of Texas by fully complying with Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council guidelines and Texas Administrative Code RULE §781.501, RULE §681.142, & RULE §801.261

The Association for Play Therapy sets the credentialing standards for Play Therapists and approves applications for the Registered Play Therapist Credential.
