5/2/24, 7:00 PMFiddling Cricket & Canyon Acoustic Society Concert Series 2024 present: Benny Bleu: Oldtime Meditative Banjo and Earth-Focused songs, with special guests, Alison Steele and BanjerDan!
Benny Bleu (http://bennybleu.com/)
“New York-native, Benny Bleu is a geologist by trade, banjo player and singer-songwriter who touches on our connections with the natural world and each other.” – Putumayo World Music
Benny Bleu Haravitch plays old time banjo in the Finger Lakes of upstate New York. A region defined by deep lake valleys and steep highlands. The topography is reflected in the local fiddle tradition, and Benny’s banjo rolls along having studied and played with regional old-time visionaries Mac Benford, Richie Stearns, Judy Hyman, and Bruce Molsky. As a former geologist, his songwriting is earth-focused and inspired by the natural world. His performances are soothing journeys through tunes from the homeland, old songs inspired by growing up next to a jug-bandleader, and original modern folk musings. The spring of 2024 is a prolific time as he is releasing twin progressive acoustic albums, Banjo Meditations and Banjo Jubilations, and embarking on an all-too-uncommon Amtrak tour to the west coast and back. Follow along at his website https://bennybleu.com. For a performance sample check out his recent feature at the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance:
Alison Steele (https://facebook.com/alison.steele.182/) is a fantastic clawhammer banjo player and singer-songwriter from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, now living in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. She performs solo and with the all-female string bands Sugar by the Pound and Coyote Moon.
BanjerDan (http://banjerdan.live/)
BanjerDan (Dan Mazer) is a banjo player/multi-instrumentalist based in Santa Cruz, CA. His music is an Americana mix, rooted in straight-ahead Bluegrass and branching out to include folk, country, blues, oldies, and other styles.
