Benefits & Entitlements Masterclass: Understanding Welfare Benefits, Disability Support & Mental Capacity
This practical masterclass will provide clear guidance on navigating the benefits system, including Personal Independence Payment and Limited Capability for Work assessments, with a focus on supporting people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and autism. It will explore how these benefits operate in practice, how to gather and present appropriate evidence, and the common challenges and pitfalls faced by individuals within this group. Attendees will gain a grounded understanding of how to secure fair and accurate outcomes in often complex circumstances.
The session will also cover the legal considerations and methods for helping people with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and autism navigate the system. This session will cover the key statues of those who can support from an informal basis up to legal responsibility. The status, roles and responsibilities of being a parent, a DWP appointees, a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and a Court appointed Deputy via the Court of Protection, will be covered to ensure a general understanding.
Participants will leave with practical, easy-to-understand guidance to help them confidently support this cohort when navigating the benefits system.
