“In the early morning hours of March 29, Roderick Starks and his wife Tyneshia Butler were asleep in their apartment. Down the hall, 10-year-old Tomereo and 11-year-old Traniya were tucked in. The family of four had recently moved into Southwind Apartments off Irish Hill Drive in Biloxi.” - WLOX News 10-2-2024 MSA became aware of the horrific story of the Starks family after WLOX published its October 2, report six months after the fire that nearly took the lives of the two children of Tyneshia Butler. If not for the bravery and quick action of Mr. Starks, Tyneshia would have also possibly lost her life. She jumped from the window is the apartment that was engulfed in flames, Roderick caught her. They had to be helicoptered to the hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Their lives have been completely upended ! Since the fire neither parent has been able to work and the daughter is still in the hospital in Texas. The son still requires out of state medical visits for burn treatment. Roderick himself spent 4 months hospitalized.

MSA together with The Cypress Taphouse of Ocean Springs is holding a benefit for this family on Sat Nov 23, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm to hopefully raise money to help them begin to find a home and mend their lives. Roderick is a veteran and the only source of income he has is a small VA benefit. We are looking for for locals to donate raffle items. We will draw the raffle tickets throughout the evening of the 23rd.
100% of the money raised will be given to the family.
We will also accept monetary donations on behalf of the family and those funds will be given directly to the family.
More details coming soon!
