Rut was diagnosed in early March 2024 with Medullary Thyroid Cancer. He had his first surgery in early April to remove the softball sized tumor. He spent 10 days in the hospital. He had a trach for the next 3 weeks. Not long after, Rut endured 33 sessions of targeted radiation. Four weeks later he had a CT scan which revealed suspicious lymph nodes which were found to be cancerous.Rut underwent a second surgery to remove the lymph nodes just before Thanksgiving. With the second surgery, he lost all four of his parathyroid glands which has resulted in hypocalcemia. Hypocalcemia is a calcium deficiency which he will now need to take supplements for the rest of his life. After the second surgery, Rut had another trach which was recently removed.
While the surgeries have removed the cancerous tumors, he has been left with paralyzed vocal cords. With the trach removed he may not have the ability to speak.
With all that said, we are hosting a fundraiser to help Rut and his wife Terra with the additional costs associated with specialized medications and ongoing care not covered by insurance.
Please join us in person for a fundraiser with raffle baskets, silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle to support our dear friends.
