Dezi has recently been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She is absolutely amazing and lives with her little sister and mother. In the past she's enjoyed gymnastics, karate, and cheerleading, and is currently thrilled to play drums in her Middle School marching band. From a young age, she started getting migraines. The doctors ordered an MRI which resulted in an incidental finding of a white matter lesion that they monitored for a few years. Last fall, the specialist reccomended a biopsy that happened at the beginning of July. The pathology showed it to be a Grade 2 Infiltrating Astrocytoma. It begins at the surface of her brain by the skull, but has already spidered to the middle, making it difficult to reach and remove all of it. It's also located by several sensory motor regions making it even more difficult and increasing risks. The chance of even more immediate surgeries for complete removal are a high possibility. The procedure is scheduled for the end of October, just weeks after her 14th birthday.
After the surgery, Dezi's mother, who is her sole provider, will need to take al least several weeks off of work to care for her; per doctors orders. It's unclear just how long it may take depending on the outcome. During this time there will be no income for food or household bills. On top of that, the holidays will be right around the corner.
We will be having a Benefit Dinner for her on October 19th at Eastern Hall from 1-5pm. It's a Taco and Salad Bar. Prices are $10 per adult, $5 per kid, and $30 max per family.
We will be having a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle. There will also be a live D.J.
There will be a cash bar for ALL drinks-including soda. The hall is on the 2nd floor without an elevator.
