The Geary Lions Club will be hosting a benefit breakfast in honor of longtime community member Bonnie McDonaldLively. The breakfast will be held on Saturday, March 21st from 8am to 11am. In addition to attending, we are also seeking donations to help cover the cost of food. For those who may not know Bonnie, she has been an active and dedicated member of the Geary community for many years. She has worked at the Geary Headstart Program for over 25 years, caring for countless children and playing a vital role in their early learning and development. Bonnie has always gone above and beyond—not only supporting children, but also offering her time, guidance, and compassion to parents both during and outside of working hours.
Outside of her career, Bonnie is a devoted mother to two children, a stepson, and a proud grandmother of two. She continues to support her family daily and spends much of her time helping others. Between her love for her family and her commitment to the Headstart program, Bonnie has dedicated her life to ensuring every child receives the care and attention they deserve.
In November 2025, Bonnie became ill and began attending numerous medical appointments and tests to determine the cause. In January 2026, she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and will require surgery to remove the tumor, along with another organ. Following surgery, she will undergo chemotherapy to reduce the risk of the cancer spreading. This means Bonnie will need to be off work for an extended period.
As we all know, the cost of living is high, and being unable to work only adds to the strain. If you are able to support Bonnie—whether by attending the breakfast and enjoying a delicious meal or by offering a donation—it would be deeply appreciated and will make a meaningful difference during this difficult time.
