Hobbit Hill Farm is teaming up with Virginia Cooperative Extension, the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, and the Virginia Soil Health Coalition for an educational field day about soil health and why it matters for everyone!
This event will feature a guided program with short presentations from soil experts, a blueberry patch tour, and interactive activities to learn about how to care for and improve your soil.
Whether you’re a home gardener, farmer, or fresh food enthusiast - this event is for you!
We’ll have some picnic tables, but you’re welcome to bring a folding chair, camp chair, or blanket to sit on.
We encourage you to bring a small, air-dried sample of your own soil (about a handful to 1 cup) from a place where you know how the soil has been managed. If possible, include an intact soil aggregate—a small clump of soil that holds together naturally—for our hands-on soil activities.
Children are always welcome! While the activities won’t be specifically designed for kids, we’re happy to have them along.
Please plan to join us after the program from 4-5pm for community connection and light refreshments.
Registration is not required. Please RSVP to our Facebook event to help us with planning or send us an e-mail ([email protected]).
We look forward to seeing you at the farm!
