State Representative Wick Thomas has announced a communityupdate and listening session to provide the latest details and gather input on the new Kansas City
Psychiatric Hospital project, planned for Belvidere Park.
The hospital is a partnership between the State of Missouri, University Health, and the City of Kansas City to offer inpatient psychiatric care for at least 200 people experiencing a mental health crisis. It is expected to open in 2029 and will help ease pressure on emergency rooms and local jails while providing better care closer to home.
Nearly $300 million in state funding was approved to help make the project possible. Attendees will hear short updates from:
State Rep. Wick Thomas
Sharon Freese (University Health)
Megan Roedel and Dale Cassmeyer (Missouri Department of Mental Health)
Shayne Martin (Office of Administration)
“It is vital that the community is heard and has a seat at the table in the development of this mental health facility,” stated Thomas, D-Kansas City. “This hospital is a real opportunity to improve mental health care in our area. I want Northeast Kansas City neighbors to come share their thoughts and help shape the project.”
