Beltaine: Fire & Folklore

Celebrate the festival of Beltaine at Navan Centre & Fort on Friday 1st May from 7:15pm to 10:15pm.
Tradition has it that at the spring Celtic festival of Beltaine all the hearths and fires on the island of Ireland were snuffed out. Members of the ancient clans then travelled to the site of Uisneach, the centre of Ireland, to gather the sacred flame from the great Beltaine fire. It was then carried the length and breadth of the land back to their homes rekindling hearths and symbolising purification, fertility, and fresh beginnings. The sacred flame was said to cleanse the land as it travelled, marking the time for spring planting, and a fruitful rebirth of nature.
Join us at for an unforgettable evening as we prepare the land — and ourselves — for a year of plenty. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and stories of the ancient Celts through live interpretation, storytelling, music, and hands-on experiences, bringing this seasonal celebration vividly to life. Enjoy traditional seasonal snacks and warm hospitality as you connect with the rhythms of nature and the spirit of renewal that lies at the heart of Beltaine.
As night falls, gather together for the sacred fire ceremony, where flame, folklore, and ritual combine in a powerful and atmospheric finale. Guided by our druid, witness the rekindling of the sacred fire and take part in a moment that celebrates rebirth, community, and the turning of the seasons.
