The Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self-Support Group is deeply committed to fostering community unity and support. Comprising refugees, asylum seekers, and others who have endured the trials of forced migration, this collective actively collaborates to surmount the challenges imposed upon them by the Hostile Environment. Their collective effort aims to carve out a meaningful place for themselves within the vibrant tapestry of Brighton.
The Jollof Café is a project of the Self Support Group
Jollof Cafe seeks to achieve several important objectives:
1. Alleviate the pervasive loneliness often felt by migrant communities.
2. Raise funds for their destitution support initiative.
3. Shine a spotlight on the exceptional skills and mouth watering cuisines cooked by volunteer cooks from diverse corners of the globe.
In essence, the Sussex Refugee and Migrant Self-Support Group, through initiatives like the Jollof Café, strives to foster a sense of belonging, celebration, and shared humanity that transcends borders and celebrates the beautiful mosaic of Brighton's multicultural community.
Radio Calais is produced by Brighton-based activists and DJs involved in offering solidarity to communities in Calais. It mixes music with information from the perspectives of refugee communities living in the ‘unofficial settlements’ of northern France and those working to support them. Radio Calais presents the soundscapes of everyday life of the UK Border alongside updates from organisations resisting the hostile environment and its racism.
