Operation Smile’s Side Event at the 69th Commission on Status of Women – UN New York
Title: Beijing at 30: Investing in Women to Build Access to Surgical Care
Description: The 69th CSW is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, a pivotal agreement on the rights of women and girls, and the importance of investing in them. This panel will explore how investing in key focuses of the Beijing Declaration, like education and access to health care for women and girls, equal access to resources, and the engagement of women’s groups in national planning, can help achieve the goals of Global Surgery 2030 by creating the conditions for improved healthcare for all. Cyclically, we will share how achieving improved surgical access for communities in need will help accelerate progress and increase the ability to realize the goals of the Beijing Declaration- the impacts of increased surgical access particularly benefit women and girls, and the engagement of women in the health workforce drives other progress.
