Behind-the-Scenes Aboard the Olympia

Join the Museum Council as we explore the Olympia, a nineteenth-century cruiser at the Independence Seaport Museum (ISM)! The oldest floating steel warship in the world, she was in service for 27 years and has been docked at Penn’s Landing alongside the Becuna, a World War II era submarine, since 1976. Olympia is a highlight of ISM’s 10,000 plus object collection, and furthers the museum’s mission of encouraging visitors to discover Philadelphia’s river of history and world of connections.

The program will have light refreshments available on the berth deck, followed by two staggered tours starting at 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm getting to explore the ship’s steam engine room.

*This address is for the main Museum building, but the ramp to get on the Olympia is a little further south, just past the Hilton hotel along the water. A map will be shared with the reminder email for registrants.

Accessibility: Please note that being a historic warship, the Olympia is not ADA-compliant and does not have heat or air conditioning.
