Behind the Music—the Cultural Caravan's popular concert-and-conversation series features Artistic Director Josh Halpern in unscripted conversation with a lineup of dynamic MainStage artists. Get a rare glimpse into their creative process, hear music you won't experience anywhere else, and bring your own questions about art, inspiration, and life. For this edition, Josh and three extraordinary artists—violinist Geneva Lewis, clarinetist Yoonah Kim, and pianist Amy Yang—each share a short piece of music that holds personal significance for them. Geneva is a BBC New Generation Artist whose playing has been called "remarkable" by critics on both sides of the Atlantic; Yoonah made history as the first solo clarinetist to win the Concert Artists Guild Competition in nearly thirty years and has been praised by the New York Times for her "inexhaustible virtuosity"; and Amy, Associate Dean of Piano Studies at the Curtis Institute, has been hailed by the Washington Post for her "jaw-dropping" pianism. Over the course of the evening, you'll hear about these special pieces and, through them, about the remarkable lives and careers of the artists who chose them. It's like an interactive mix tape—with a cast of world-class musicians there to play it live.
Four pieces, four stories, one unusually personal evening of music and conversation.
