Mike McRoberts (Ngāti Kahungunu ki te Wairoa) is one of New Zealand's most respected journalists and broadcasters, with an award-winning career spanning four decades. Join us to hear him talk about the books that have shaped his life at this special fundraising event for Katherine Mansfield House & Garden. After anchoring Newshub's 6pm bulletin for 20 years and reporting from conflict zones and natural disasters worldwide, Mike is a familiar face in New Zealand homes. His work involves telling other people’s stories, but what stories have influenced him? Books have played an important role in Mike’s life, taking him from student librarian to author of two books himself.
Mike’s latest book, 'Speaking My Language | Te Kōrero i Tōku Reo', explores his deeply personal journey into Te Reo Māori and Te Ao Māori - captured in his acclaimed documentary, 'Kia Ora, Good Evening'.
The evening will begin with a glass of Hunter’s Wines’ award-winning MiruMiru™ and delicious canapés. A non-alcoholic option will also be available.
This event is being held to raise funds for our Category 1 Historic Place and writer’s museum in Thorndon, which is open six days a week. We offer an annual programme of events and activities designed to encourage creativity and we host school and tour groups to share the life, literature and legacy of Katherine Mansfield.
