Leadership development is often shaped by the events individuals encounter, yet not all events contribute equally to leader identity formation and self-efficacy. The way events are processed, organized, and remembered plays a crucial role in determining their developmental impact. Drawing from psychology and leadership theory, I introduce the concept of Event Binding Capacity (EBC)—the ability to integrate leadership-relevant experiences into a cohesive memory that explains how experience is encoded around identity. I will present 1 pilot and 2 main studies (two cross-sectional study and one experiment) that proposed a novel method to measure EBC and its relationship with leader self-concepts. Results indicate that individuals with higher EBC, when exposed to events that are self-relevant and other-relevant, develop stronger leader identities and greater self-efficacy. Implications will be discussed.
