About this Event
4-Day Workshop: June 15, 16, 17 + July: TBD
If you have taken a wheel class before and are looking to expand on your skillset, this is the perfect workshop style camp for you! In this 3-day workshop for seasoned adult beginners, you’ll get hands-on instruction and individual practice time at the wheel, with experienced potter Sara Ballek. Through group demos and individualized support, Sara will be there to guide you and answer questions along the way. Throughout the week, you will brush up on the basics of wheel throwing and dive into some new and exciting forms that go beyond the cylinder or bowls shapes you learned during your first class. We will expand upon those simple, utilitarian forms and take things to the next level. From a ball of clay to completion, students will create functional, food safe, pottery that can be used at home. You will learn how to make more complex cups, bowls, plates, handled forms, and even dip into some surface design work!
Some beginning prior experience with clay is needed for this class—but most importantly, bring your curiosity and be ready to get your hands dirty and have fun! Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on (it will wash out!) and closed-toed shoes. For wheel work, skip jewelry, roll up your sleeves, tie long hair back, and keep nails trimmed for the best experience. Clay and all tools needed for the class are provided by Paducah School of Art and Design.
