Beginning Quilting Class – Long DescriptionThis Beginning Quilting class is designed for sewists who are ready to take the next step into quilting.
Students will learn essential quilting techniques while building confidence with cutting, piecing, pressing, and finishing a simple quilted project.
In the first class block, students will focus on quilting fundamentals, including how to safely and accurately use a rotary cutter. Different types of rotary cutters will be discussed, along with proper cutting techniques to ensure accuracy and consistency. Students will learn how to sew with an accurate ¼-inch seam allowance, a key skill in successful quilting, and how this seam allowance is used in block construction.
Basic block construction will be introduced, including simple pieced blocks and strip piecing techniques. Pressing methods will also be covered, with instruction on starch vs. non-starch options and the use of common pressing products such as Best Press, Magic, and Flatter to achieve crisp, accurate results.
In the second class block, students will apply these skills by completing a guided project. Students will cut and sew a table runner, then quilt and bind the project, learning the basics of quilting and binding techniques along the way. All supplies for the class project will provided.
Cost for two sessions and to include all materials $50
Class dates: April 1st and April 15th 1pm - 3 pm
