ABOUT THE HORTON TECHNIQUE
Developed by Lester Horton in Los Angeles during the 1920s–40s, Horton is a codified modern dance technique that trains the body through structured movement exercises. In this beginning class, dancers will be introduced to the foundational exercises, studies, and movement vocabulary that form the basis of Horton technique.
CLASS STRUCTURE
This 90 minute class explores the foundational elements of Horton technique, including roll downs, flat backs, primitive squats, release swings, lateral T's, standing stag, Fortification 1, across-the-floor progressions, and light to medium jumps.
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
• Adults who are new to Horton technique
• Movers and dancers looking for a fun way to build strength, flexibility, and musicality
• Dancers looking to supplement their ballet training with a modern dance technique
No previous Horton experience is required.
WHAT TO BRING
• Comfortable clothing you can move in
• Bare feet, ballet shoes, or grip socks
