About this Event
Our beginners’ spoon carving course is designed to introduce you to the timeless craft of spoon carving, starting from a fresh, green log. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to transform green wood into a functional and aesthetically pleasing spoon, guided by experienced instructors every step of the way.
The course begins with an introduction to the different types of wood suitable for carving and how to select the perfect green log. You will learn about the properties of green wood and why it is easier to carve due to its higher moisture content. From there, we will cover the essential tools and their uses, including carving knives, hook knives, and axes, And you will get the opportunity to try tools from different manufacturers such as: Wetterlings, Gränsfors Bruk, Morakniv, Robin Wood, Ben Orford,
Safety is our top priority, so we will provide detailed instruction on safe carving techniques and tool handling. You will start by splitting your log and roughing out the spoon's basic shape with an axe. As the course progresses, you will refine the shape using carving knives, focusing on both functionality and design.
The workshop will also cover the finer points of spoon carving, such as creating smooth, even surfaces and adding personal touches. By the end of the session, you will have a finished spoon, as well as the skills and confidence to continue carving on your own. Join us for a rewarding experience that blends creativity, craftsmanship, and a connection to nature.
