Beginners Pastel Pencils Workshop - Bee Portrait

This full day pastel pencil workshop with Emily Rose Fine Art will take you through how to create a realistic bee portrait.

This day course will start by looking at the medium of pastel pencils, pastels and pastel papers. We will experiment with different materials and see why certain options work better for detailed work. By the end of the morning, you'll feel confident in this new medium and have some new techniques under your belt. We will then work through a detailed Bee portrait, using the new skills we have just practiced, focusing on tonal value, edges and fine details. This is a friendly and relaxed course with plenty of one on one help and demonstrations to break up the day.

Pastel pencils are often used for wildlife paintings as they have a naturally soft texture that can perfectly mimic fur. We will look at value to create convincing 3D forms, as well as, colour temperature and edge management to achieve a professional finish.

We will start with a tonal underpainting that will serve as a base for the realistic details over the top. You'll learn how to layer this medium to create depth and textures that appear good enough to touch! You'll be taught with step by step demonstrations and plenty of one-to-one help throughout the day.

What do I need to bring?

Reading glasses (if you need them!) will be useful for this class. Everything else will be provided for you.
