Beginner Piano Class for children ages 6 - 10
* Class size limited to 9 participants *
Eight 1-hour classes on Wednesdays at 5:30 PM beginning May 27 .
- For ages 6-10
- Older students allowed
- Younger allowed pending an evaluation.
SUMMER-SESSION: This is hands-on learning from the start as everyone has their own keyboard to use in class. Some of the topics covered include music theory, notation, melody & chords, hand position and posture.
For students who complete this class, they will have a basic understanding of the keyboard and basic music theory. The participants will be able to play simple melodies one hand at a time; the ultimate goal of this class though is for students be able to play a simple melody with basic accompaniment, plaing both hands at the same time.
Group classes for beginners offer a number of advantages over starting with private lessons. Besides the cost savings, the group environment provides more time to learn with an instructor. Playing along with others is also a benefit to learning, and it’s more fun!
Free admission is only if by the end of the first lesson you decided not to continue.
The cost for the entire eight weeks course is $160.
Payment is accepted by cash, check, PayPal or Venmo. Please have your payment ready with you at the first lesson on May 27. If unable to register online, please call us to reserve a place! FAQs
Do I need to have a piano at home?
You will need to have access to a piano or a keyboard with full-size keys so that you can practice between classes. Keyboards will be provided during the classes, so the only thing you will need to bring with you each week is the book.
If you don't have access to a piano or keyboard but would still like to take the class, contact us to see what options might be available. We can provide info on where to purchase an appropriate instrument for around $130.
Can younger students participate?
Maybe. Younger (age 5) may be able to take the class but an evaluation is needed first. Please contact us for more information about this.
What about older children?
Older kids are allowed, but they usually don't like being in the same class with mostly 6-8 years old. If this is not a problem, then feel free to sign-up.
Is there a discount for additional family members?
Yes! Additional family members (siblings) are eligible for 10% discount.
I'm interested but the time doesn't work for me, or I’m in a different age group.
Please let us know! We will have new classes starting after this one and the details for these will be determined in part by the interest shown ahead of time. We'd like to put together an adult class sometime soon!
